Depression Fighter

by Lailatul Wahyu

I choose to fight depression because watching people stumble upon depression breaks my heart into pieces. It makes me feel guilty for not helping those aggrieved by depression. The fact that depression is caused by intense grief or sadness makes me realize that some people, they are unable to deal with this world on their own. The pain of grievance strikes people so bad that some of us are unable to stand and fight back alone. That's why, those who are strong enough, have the moral duty to fight along with them.

It is not the depression that I hate, nor the human beings, nor the world itself. I'm well aware that depression occurs due to many factors and to me, the inability to fight it (which is natural & common) is not a crime. In fact, to have a weakness isn't a crime, to be unable to fight isn't a crime, but to not willing to fight, I would say it is a crime and sinful as you expose yourself or let others to expose themselves to something so painful, so heart-throbbing, so powerful in degrading human's life worth, such as depression.

The way I see it, life is only beautiful when we put meaning to it, and to create a meaningful life, we need the willingness to fight for it. The pain & suffering from fighting will make human treasure the meaning of life, and strive for the better. In other words, that's how we improve or upgrade our worth. Through fighting. Depression, the one that makes human feel worthless or lose hope in life, is the thing we must willing to fight if we want to create a beautiful life.

Depression isn't something we can take for granted. But it is also not something which is too powerful that we as human beings must be afraid of. Life is hard and most of the times it pushes people beyond our limit, but Allah won't. He promises that He won't test us anything that is beyond our capacity. Thus I believe, depression, or any other tests which befall us, is something we could and must fight against. So that at the end of the day, we'll be able to stand up stronger, realising that He has never left our sides and we worth more than what we could have imagined.
Depression is an illness, and there's always a cure for it if we choose to fight it. To me, falling on our knees doesn't potray a weakness. Instead, it's a chance for us to fight and stand on our feet again so that we can grow even more than before.
